Five Questions:

1. Words to live by? To whom much is given, much will be required.

2. Advice to your 20-year-old self? My advice to my 20-year-old self would be very similar to the things I tell my two teenage daughters today. Don’t let fear of failure prevent you from trying new things or setting new goals. Failure and mistakes are inevitable and acceptable if you learn from them.

3. Favorite thing about your job? After 25 years in this field, I still face new challenges and learn new things almost every day. I’m fortunate to work with a staff that shares new information, technology, resources and knowledge with each other.

4. Favorite thing in your library? The Supreme Court Library at Buffalo has an incredible historical collection which contains items one might not expect to find in a New York State court library. We have some British titles from the 17th and 18th centuries and a French law book that was published in Paris in 1863. Yet, I think my favorite items are the books that once belonged to Millard Fillmore when he was an attorney practicing in Buffalo. Not only are they stamped with his firm name, but he signed his name on the inside covers. We have no idea how or when they became part of our collection, but they are among our most treasured items.

5. Last photo you took with your phone? The last photo I took with my phone was earlier this month in Toronto when I went to hear Michelle Obama speak. I took a picture of her image on the large video monitor because the stage was so far from my seat. She was so inspirational that I needed to capture the moment.
